Elite Community Ultrasound (ECU) is delighted to offer this Rapid reassurance scan for all pregnant women who are 16 years or above and in pregnancy between 15 and 23 weeks. However, this scan is not a substitute of 12 weeks combined and 20 weeks anomaly scans which are offered in the NHS.

This scan includes:   - A rapid assessment conducted by a highly skilled ultrasound practitioner with extensive NHS experience to evaluate:

  •  Foetal Cardiac Activity (Baby’s heartbeat).
  •  Foetal movements.
  • Reassurance (Peace of mind) and
  • A verbal report and two b/w printed images of unborn baby.

While the scan may not detect all conditions, a normal result cannot guarantee the absence of abnormalities.

Frequently Asked Questions

What preparation do I need for Rapid reassurance scan?

You are required to have full bladder to get an adequate result. Therefore, you are required to drink one pint of water at least 30-45 minutes before your scan appointment.

What happens if I forgot to drink water or don’t have required full bladder at the time of scanning?

Your scan will still be attempted, however may interfere with the results of the test.

What kind of clothing do I need to wear for this scan?

There is no specific requirement of clothing for undergoing this scan. However, wearing loose and two-piece cloths are advisable.

What happens during the Rapid reassurance scan?

You will be asked to lie down on the scan couch(bed) comfortably. Our well qualified experienced specialist ultrasound Practitioner/Sonographer will put water-based gel on your lower tummy. Thereafter, they scan by placing the transducer (camera) over the gel on your lower belly.

What happens If your ultrasound practitioner/sonographer detects anything out of the ordinary during this routine check?

In this situation ultrasound practitioner/sonographer shall advise you accordingly.

What is the duration of reassurance scan?

The duration of the scan is usually 10-15 minutes.
