Elite Community Ultrasound (ECU) is delighted to provide a Dating scan for pregnant women aged 16 years or above and expecting their pregnancy between 9 weeks and 14 weeks 6 days. However, this scan does not replace the combined 12-week scan provided by the NHS.

This scan includes:

  • A detailed written report and two b/w printed images of unborn baby.
  • Up to 20 minutes appointment.

Our Dating scan is a safe, painless, and radiation-free medical imaging to check:

  • Dating the pregnancy.
  • Fetal Cardiac Activity (Baby’s heartbeat).
  • Estimated gestational age and estimated due date.
  • Reassurance (Peace of mind).

Frequently Asked Questions

What preparation do I need for Dating scan?

You are required to have full bladder to get an adequate result. Therefore, you are required to drink two pints of water at least an hour before your scan appointment.

What happens if I forgot to drink water or don’t have required full bladder at the time of scanning?

Your scan will still be attempted, however may interfere with the results of the test.

What kind of clothing do I need to wear for this scan?

There is no specific requirement of clothing for undergoing this scan. However, wearing loose and two-piece cloths are advisable.

What happens during the dating scan?

You will be asked to lie down on the scan couch(bed) comfortably. Our well qualified experienced specialist ultrasound Practitioner/Sonographer will put water-based gel on your lower tummy. Thereafter, they scan by placing the transducer (camera) over the gel on your lower belly.

What is the duration of the scan?

The duration of the scan is usually 10 – 15 minutes and sometimes can take up to 20 minutes depends on the visibility of unborn baby and complexity of scan.
