There are no specific clothing requirements for the scan. However, we recommend that you wear comfortable clothing, as this will allow for easy access to the area being examined.
No, there are no known risks associated with this examination. However, factors such as a high BMI may affect the visibility and accuracy of the scan results.
The ultrasound procedure is completely painless. You will only feel the sensor being gently applied to your skin. In certain cases, however, mild pressure may be applied to the affected area in order to obtain clearer images, which can assist in identifying the cause of your symptoms.
You will be asked to sit on a scan stool or lie on a scan couch (bed), depending on the type of scan being performed. Our qualified Consultant Radiologist or Sonographer will apply a water-based gel to the area being examined. The probe (ultrasound camera) will then be moved over the area to assess the wrist or surrounding soft tissues.
The scan typically lasts between 10 to 15 minutes, though it may take up to 20 minutes depending on factors like the visibility of the body part being examined and the complexity of the scan.
No, there are no side effects from the ultrasound scan.
You will receive a provisional verbal report of your results immediately after the scan. You may then go home or return to work as needed. The radiologist or sonographer will later review the images and prepare a detailed report. This final report, along with relevant images, will be securely sent to your registered email address within 24 to 48 hours. If requested, we can also send the report to your GP or other healthcare provider.
If any abnormalities or issues are detected during the muscles joints scans, the radiologist or sonographer will provide advice on whether further follow-up is needed. This may include additional imaging or a referral to your GP or other healthcare provider for further assessment and management.
You will receive your scan results within 24 to 48 hours of the examination.
