Testes ultrasound is a non-invasive medical imaging to check the internal structures of both testes and surrounding tissues inside your scrotum. It can help you or your healthcare professional to exclude the cause if you have any testicular problems.

The most common issue of testes in a man can be abnormal testicular consistency, suspected testicular tumours, scrotal hernia, hydrocele (fluid in scrotal sac), cysts in epididymis (epididymis is the sperm producing sex glands in male, hematospermia (blood in semen) and varicocele (abnormal dilatation of veins in the scrotum)

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I need an ultrasound of my testes?

  • If you are experiencing the enlargement or swelling of your either one side or both sides    testicles/scrotum.
  • If you feel pain in one sided or both sided testes.
  • Lump in either side testicle.
  • If you experience blood in semen.
  • If you have history of undescended testes (a condition in which the testicles of a boy are not in their normal position in their scrotum).

What preparation do I need for testicular scan?

No preparation is required.

What kind of clothing do I need to wear for this scan?

There is no specific requirement of clothing for undergoing this scan. However, wearing loose and two-piece cloths are advisable.

What happens during the testicular scan?

You will be asked to lie down on the scan couch(bed) comfortably. Our well qualified experienced Consultant Radiologist will put water-based gel on your scrotum. Thereafter, they examine the testicles and surrounding areas by placing the probe (camera) over them.

What is the duration of the scan?

The duration of the scan is usually 10 – 15 minutes and sometimes can take up to 20 minutes for one side depends on the visibility of organs and complexity of scan.
